Building Renovations

Approximately 80% of Hyman Hayes Associates’ work involves renovation, addition, and fit-up projects. As a result, we are well versed in the special needs of renovation projects and how best to manage these projects. Healthcare, Commercial and Cleanroom Building Renovations present a much larger challenge than a new stand-alone building because of the need for extensive coordination, the need to verify and design around existing conditions, and the need to be thorough and detailed in planning and coordinating the interconnection of new work to existing conditions. We also understand the challenge of working in an occupied environment and have completed many projects which required numerous phases to allow for minimum disruption to other activities. With this specific experience, we have gained a knowledge base that allows us to make informed decisions and is at the core of our successful project performance.

Healthcare Building Renovations

Renovation for Inpatient Orthopedic Surgery Center | Saratoga Hospital, Saratoga Springs, New York

This new regional orthopedic center on the third floor of the hospital’s existing D-Wing was designed to create hotel-like accommodations in an orthopedic unit that would not only exceed the expectation of existing patients but draw patients from a much larger regional market.

Renovation for Outpatient Endoscopy/GI Surgery Center | Gastroenterology Associates of Northern New York, Glens Falls, New York

This GI practice converted their office-based endoscopy center to an Article 28 Ambulatory Surgery Center with an addition and renovations of the existing facility. Significant design challenges included a tight site, limited budget and uninterrupted operation of the existing facility.

Hospital Lobby and Emergency Entrance Renovation | Health Alliance of the Hudson Valley, Benedictine Hospital, Kingston, New York

The new lobby addition serves to provide a prominent and easily distinguishable entry with waiting area removed from the day-to-day functions of the hospital. The 1,750 square foot lobby utilizes a combination of crisp white metal and glass curtain wall, along with large-scale gray porcelain floor tile and deep rich cherry wood wall panels.

Emergency Department Addition and Renovation | Saratoga Hospital, Saratoga Springs, New York

New 27,900 sf, 36-bed Emergency Department features all single-occupancy rooms to allow for maximum patient comfort and confidentiality. The addition was designed to provide space for a pharmacy, central supplies, mechanical room, dedicated imaging and contemporary IT storage.

Commercial Building Renovations

Cafeteria and Food Service Renovation | Albany Medical Center, Albany Medical College, Albany, New York

The outdated kitchen and cafeteria were gutted and replaced with larger modern preparation, serving, and seating areas to accommodate the 400+ staff. Working with the kitchen operator the equipment vendor HHA designed a custom service line and seating area.

Cleanroom/Laboratory Building Renovations

Biochemestry Laboratory Renovation | Office of General Services (OGS) Design and Construction Group (D&C), SUNY University at Albany-SUNY, Albany, New York

A project with a challenging budget and limited space required extensive value engineering and the reuse of mechanicals, fume hoods and casework. Careful planning and design provided for adequate bench work space and sufficient aisle clearances.
