Project Request:

To add an Electrophysiology Bi-Plane laboratory when the existing department reached projected use levels.

Project Solution:

Initial lab planning by HHA to confirm available space was large enough was completed two years earlier when the existing EP lab was renovated. Also, as part of the initial renovation, a semi-restricted corridor had been formed with scrub sink, small equipment, and electrical closet allowing shared access between existing and future EP labs. The lab includes a closet for bi-plane equipment racks, medical gases at two locations in the ceiling at the head of the table and on the wall at the foot of the table, counter with storage cabinets on one side, and a movable computer workstation on the opposite wall. The ‘U’ shaped counter in the control room provides space for technicians as well as nurses prior to and during procedures. A large view window and the space behind the technician allow other physicians and students to observe procedures. Extensive coordination was required with users to accommodate the necessary bi-plane equipment in the lab and on the structure to support the ceiling mounted bi-plane rail, surgical light, six-panel monitor rack and other miscellaneous equipment.
