Benedictine Hospital | Hospital Lobby Entrance Addition
Project Size: 2,950-sf
Project Location: 105 Marys Ave, Kingston, NY 12401
Project Team: Benedictine Hospital
Completion Date: December 2009
Construction Cost: $1.3 Million
To create an easily distinguishable and prominent entry and waiting area, match the unifying appearance of other campus buildings, and connect an annex building to the main hospital.
The 1,750-sf lobby is designed with a crisp white metal and glass curtain wall, large scale gray porcelain floor tile, and deep rich cherry wood wall panels. The 1.5-story high glass front addition draws patients and visitors to the entry while flooding the space with natural light. The canopy’s wood grain plank ceiling extends into the lobby at the revolving door soffit furthering the connection between the exterior and interior and continues the use of natural warm materials. A custom wood and metal panel information desk adds to the upscale appearance. The lobby addition incorporates the annex entrance on one side but scales down the connection both in width of opening and height of the ceiling to downplay the connection and not draw away from the impact of the waiting area. Approximately 1,200-sf of existing building space was also renovated and upgraded in connection with the lobby addition.
