Project Request:
To renovate a Biochemistry Laboratory at SUNY Albany.
Project Solution:
The University at Albany specifically requested HHA for the renovation because of a report we had prepared for a similar biochemistry lab renovation at SUNY Oneonta. A major project challenge was the budget. Extensive value engineering and the reuse of existing fume hoods and casework helped with the tight budget. Careful planning and design were needed to provide adequate bench workspace while maintaining sufficient aisle clearances. The existing fume hoods remained in place. Existing casework was cleaned, refinished, and configured to meet the new lab use. Additional casework, to match existing, with epoxy resin tops was added. Prep areas did not have adequate supply air for laboratory use so a ceiling mounted supply air unit was designed to draw outside air through a louver installed in an existing window. The project was phased to keep other parts of the lab operating.
