Project Details
HHA was selected to build a new 7,454-square-foot ambulatory surgery center for Pain Management Services in Plattsburgh, NY. The 2 O.R., 8 Pre/Post Op Bay Center was constructed to accommodate the growing needs of Champlain Spine & Pain Management Center’s growing population of patients and their need for a new, cutting-edge surgery center. The owner requested that light be brought into the building wherever possible. This was accomplished through roof monitors, two-story glazing at the entry and waiting areas, and increased fenestration throughout the building and the semi-restricted corridor.
The design goals for the building were to provide Architectural presence from Tom Miller Road, a 40 mph thoroughfare in the city, and to provide the patients with a relaxing environment while waiting and using the building’s services. We provided interest and appeal from the street by designing oversized mass elements into the building. Through elongation of the main road elevation, we could draw the eye to the structure from the street, allowing more space for drivers traveling at a high speed to appreciate the architectural elements of the building. These Architectural features also bring the outside environment inside for the patients, providing a soothing and calming environment.
